New accommodation taxes have already been introduced in areas such as Tokyo, Kyoto Prefecture, and Kanazawa City, while in Nagano Prefecture, the tax will be introduced starting on 6/1 (Mon.). The new tax is set at ¥200 per person per night through 5/31/2029 (Thu.), and will increase to ¥300 per person per night beginning on 6/1/2029 (Fri.). In addition, five municipalities including Matsumoto City, Hakuba Village, Nozawa Onsen Village, and more, will apply their own tax rates.

Nagano Prefecture … ¥200 for stays costing ¥6,000 or more (before tax)
Matsumoto City … ¥200 for stays costing ¥6,000 or more (before tax) (= ¥100 city + ¥100 prefecture)
Karuizawa Town … ¥200 for stays costing ¥6,000–9,999 (before tax), ¥250 for ¥10,000–99,999 (before tax), ¥700 for ¥100,000 or more (before tax)
Hakuba Village … ¥200 for ¥6,000–19,999 (before tax), ¥400 for ¥20,000–49,999 (before tax), ¥900 for ¥50,000–99,999 (before tax), ¥1,900 for ¥100,000 or more (before tax)
Nozawa Onsen Village … 3.5% of accommodation cost for stays of ¥6,000 or more (before tax)
Achi Village … ¥300 for stays costing ¥6,000 or more (before tax) (= ¥200 village + ¥100 prefecture)
